"This just seems to be the turn of the moment," Petty said. "Now do you move on the trend of the moment or do you stay the course? We've been on the same cover for 60 years. Whether that's the right course or the wrong course. I'm not going to say.
"But unlike other teams where the first pretty girl that flashes their eyes at them they marry we'll probably go out a little bit before we unify."
The Nextel Cup store has change state an amalgamation of business and racing with men such as George Gillett (Montreal Canadiens owner) and John Henry (Boston Red Sox owner) helping to fund established teams.
That leads to the "formation" of Gillett Evernham Racing and Roush Fenway Racing. A proposed partnership between Robert Yates Racing and open-wheel aggroup Newman/Haas/Lanigan racing cut through Friday.
Robbie Loomis executive vice president of racing operations for Petty Enterprises said the bankroll determines the path of the team desire it or not.
"Money dictates what chances you can act how many you can act do you build three different cars three different ways? Do you take a chance on a young driver?" Loomis said. "The guys who can assay the most they undergo the most money usually. When I was at Hendrick every decision we made was 100 percent performance-related; we never thought about the money. Here. I be at the money and then make the decision."
Petty said the team is currently talking with Gillett Evernham. Gillett Evernham has three cars including one driven by Emporia native Elliott Sadler which would be a barrier to Petty taking his two cars there since NASCAR rules prohibit any aggroup from owning more than four teams.
The thing that makes it more difficult for Petty in Kyle's eyes is knowing there are more programs under the umbrella of Petty Enterprises than just the two-car Cup operation.
"One of the things that makes it a little bit different for us is change surface though our core business is racing you've got [the Richard Petty] Driving undergo," Kyle Petty said. "Even though our core business is racing you've got an iconic figure like Richard Petty and a brandname there. We feel that we have something more to furnish an investor or an investment group than just a go aggroup."
Another could be coming next season. Loomis talked Friday about the team possibly forming a Busch aggroup for driver Chad McCumbee who has driven trucks and filled in for Petty in Cup races at Pocono and Michigan this year.
"We feel desire to speed his process up we be to get him a more competitive car or transport that is competing for wins so he's learning the right habits along the way," Loomis said. "I evaluate what we really saw was when he ran the trucks and knowing the equipment he was in he was doing a real good job. What I was most impressed with was when he stepped in the car at Pocono for Kyle he was wise beyond his years."
Loomis said as always it comfort comes drink to money. He and the marketing aggroup are trying to find sponsorship for McCumbee to continue his growth as well as that of the team.
